Whipman 2011 – Robert Dow

Robert 25, was born in Edinburgh and has lived all his life at Dovecot Farm in Romanno Bridge.

Educated at Newlands Primary and Peebles High School he went on to study Sports Coaching at Telford College and later Agriculture at the Scottish Agricultural College. He had the honour of being Barony Herald in 1997.

Robert works with his parents, Wallace and Nancy on the family farm.

He is enthusiastic about all sports and enjoys playing badminton and watching rugby. Robert is a member of Peeblesshire young Farmers and enjoys socialising and music.

Sophie was born in Edinburgh and has lived all her life in Peebles. She is 23 years old and was educated at kingsland Primary and Peebles High School.

In 1999 Sophie was crowned Centenary Beltane Queen.

Sophie studied Adult Nursing at Edinburgh Napier university and runs her own business with The Pampered Chef. Her interest in cooking may well have been sparked during the three years when she worked part time at The Old Bakehouse.

She is a very sociable girl who enjoys spending time with her friends and shopping.

Lewis moved to Romanno Bridge at the age of three from Midlothian with his Mum and Dad, Craig and Gillian. He has a younger brother, Cameron, who is currently in P3 at Newlands Primary School.

His hobbies include football, go-karting, watching motor sport and art.

Presently he is the Newlands Football Team Captain and last year finished third in the West of Scotland Cadet Karting Championship at the Larkhall track in Lanarkshire, home of the latest Scottish F1 recruit Paul Di Resta.

He also loves meeting up with his friends after school to ride on their bikes.

In April he will be going on his first school trip abroad to France which he is reallylooking forward to. Starting High School in August will be a huge change from Newlands but a challenge he is keen to take on.

Flower Girl 2011 – Cara Craig

Cara is 5 years old and has lived in West Linton her whole life with her Dad (Ed), Mum (Sandra) and brothers (Aleš and Kyle).

When not playing with her brothers or the cat (Shanky), Cara loves going to pre-school and seeing all her friends, swimming, playing with her dolls house or setting a new record for continuous watching of Toy Story 3 on DVD.

Cara is very excited about starting school, visiting Disneyland in the summer and of course the West Linton Whipman celebrations!

Born in North West England, Marjorie came to Scotland in 1951.

After working for a year at Garvald, she came to live in West Linton at Townfoot House in 1955 with her young family.

In 1966, together with friend and neighbour, Laura Irvine, she started and ran the West Linton Playgroup for 4 years.

As a professional nurse, Marjorie worked in Edinburgh at the Western General Hospital and later as a D.N.S.

Throughout the 1970s during Whipman Week she had much fun in Isa Nicol’s team frying 80 dozen hamburgers on the big barbecue.

They were delicious!

Marjorie’s hobby is gardening.
